desmond llewelyn

At home actor Desmond Llewelyn wasn’t quite as practical as he appeared on the big screen – but he did redeem himself by being a dab hand with a paintbrush and roller!

As the current Q Ben Whishaw takes on the role for the third time in No Time To Die, Desmond’s son Ivor has spoken to the Sunday Express to share his treasured memories of his father.

Desmond played the Quartermaster of the MI6 gadget lab in 17 movies from the 007 franchise – from From Russia With Love in 1963 until The World Is Not Enough in 1999, which premiered just three weeks before his death at the age of 85.

But eldest son Ivor, his sole surviving close relative, feels Q is not enough to define Desmond.

And he says it was a sentiment shared by his mother Pamela.

He told us: “My father very much enjoyed being Q, but there was a lot more to him than that character. My mother was never a great Bond fan.

“I think she felt it took over his life and that perhaps he’d have got more jobs if he hadn’t been so identified with Bond, that as an actor he could do better than playing the same part.”

Ivor reveals his father did not share Q’s skills.

“He made it a joke that he was no good with gadgets, but he wasn’t mechanicallyminded and he certainly wasn’t inventing gadgets of his own.

“However, he was perfectly competent with normal household tasks and a firstclass painter and decorator.”

Also unlike Q, Desmond was not an English gentleman – he was born in Newport to a family of Welsh mining engineers. After attending prestigious public school Radley College in Oxfordshire, he trained at the acting school RADA.

Starting out in repertory theatre, Desmond’s early career was cut short by the Second World War. As a Second Lieutenant with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he got captured by the Germans in France and spent five years as a Prisoner Of War in various camps, “but not Colditz as has been mistakenly documented” says Ivor.

“After the deprivation and poor diet all that time, he didn’t like any quarrelling over quantities of food – that irritated him.”

Desmond wed Pamela Pantlin in 1938, they had Ivor in 1949 and Justin in 1952, and moved to East Sussex in 1959.

Ivor’s three godfathers included fellow Bond film actor Geoffrey Keen.

He also remembers his parents’ party guests including movie star Jack Hawkins, and meeting superstars Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in Oxford in 1966.

He adds: “When I was at school, I was very pleased when Daddy got me an autographed picture of Sean Connery.”

Desmond’s part as a tank gunner in the 1950 war film They Were Not Divided led director Terence Young to cast him as Q.

“Initially I don’t think they knew how it was going to go. But he was able to make the part [of Q] his own, and it suited him.”

Ivor remembers being taken to the set of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, based on a very different Ian Fleming book, with Desmond portraying the car’s original owner Mr Coggins.

“Dick Van Dyke was among those rehearsing the dance to Me Ol’ Bamboo, and after they did five takes I thought ‘How boring being an actor must be!'”

As for when his father’s films hit the cinemas, Ivor recalls: “We’d go to see them pretty promptly. It was like watching any film. It was nice to see him, but one was used to it.”

As a TV viewer, Desmond was surprisingly a fan of a certain Birminghambased soap opera: “He was very keen on Crossroads. He liked to get back in time to watch it.”

From 1971 to 1973, Desmond featured in the ITV series Follyfoot, as The Colonel whose farm is used as a sanctuary for old and unloved horses.

Ivor loved it and commented: “When Dad started in Follyfoot, they put him on a horse and it suddenly bolted.

“‘You shouldn’t have put me on that horse’ he told them, and they replied ‘You said you could ride…’ “He explained, ‘I’m an actor, of course I said I could ride! Luckily I can’.” However, despite a long list of stage and screen credits, Ivor says: “There were periods when he [Desmond] didn’t do much work.

“When he hadn’t got jobs and was spending a lot of time in the garden, I think he must have been frustrated but he never showed it to us.”

Q’s involvement in the Bond films rarely extended beyond a few minutes, but it was enough to leave a mark in the mind’s of film-goers. Ivor said: “As Dad himself said, for the (short) amount of time he was on screen he was remarkably famous.

“But he was given a lot more to do in Licence To Kill, in 1989 when he was 75, which was fun. Bond really took off for him then.

“That’s when he began doing an awful lot of promotional work around the world, and really benefitting from his position.

“He loved that and found it very interesting.

He liked the travelling and meeting people, and was perfectly happy to talk to them about Bond.” Desmond was devastated when, in the mid-90s, Pamela was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

“It’s a very cruel disease.” says Ivor. “You lose the person you love. Dad found it really awful. For the last two or three years of his life she was in a nursing home.

“In the last year of his life, Dad was not that well. “He had an enlarged heart and other ailments. Yet he never seemed to think ‘I’m 85, I can’t do that’. “He just did things. I’m sure if they’d offered him another Bond after The World Is Not Enough that he’d have done it, but the age he was they might well not have.” On December 19 1999, driving alone in his Renault Megane to a signing event for his biography, Desmond was involved in a head-on collision on the A27 and taken by helicopter to hospital in Eastbourne.

Ivor was by then living in his parents’ detached Regency villa with seven bedrooms, over an acre of land, and a sea view, and still is today.

He remembers: “I was in the garden and I looked up to see two police officers. They told me my father had had an accident, and they took me to Eastbourne. He was still alive so I got to see him, but he was not conscious.

“I held his hand. After he died there was an overwhelming feeling of absence. He was cremated and we buried the ashes here and at our house in Ireland.

“Roger Moore gave an address at the Memorial Service and Christopher Lee was there too. We never told Mum he’d died. She wouldn’t have understood.”

Pamela passed away in 2001. Justin, UK Ambassador for Tattinger Champagne and a leading equestrian commentator, died in 2012 from a heart attack at 59.

Married father-of-two Ivor, a retired Ministry Of Agriculture, Fisheries And Food civil servant, misses the family they once were.

He treasures a scrapbook of his father’s theatre programmes, adding: “I’ve got some of his clothes including an old sweater I like wearing.

“It has been over 20 years since Daddy died but he’s always there at the back of one’s mind. I don’t ever feel very distant from him.

“My wife says I’m increasingly like him. I miss having him around. He was a generous-spirited, kind man. He was my father.”

Ivor no longer makes a special effort to see the new Bond films. He explained: “Daddy was the main reason why I liked watching Bond and he’s not there anymore.

“I quite enjoy them but I’m not terribly into action movies.”

Desmond gave one of his final interviews to journalist Peter Robertson. It can be found on his podcast The PJRchive: https://shows.acast.com/PJRchive

Eternals review: Marvel biggest misfire – How can so much promise deliver so little? | Films | Entertainment https://www.announcement.news/eternals-review-marvel-biggest-misfire-how-can-so-much-promise-deliver-so-little-films-entertainment/ https://www.announcement.news/eternals-review-marvel-biggest-misfire-how-can-so-much-promise-deliver-so-little-films-entertainment/#respond Mon, 01 Nov 2021 00:47:59 +0000 https://www.announcement.news/eternals-review-marvel-biggest-misfire-how-can-so-much-promise-deliver-so-little-films-entertainment/ [ad_1]

Start with an Ocar-winning director, Chloe Zhao, hot off critical darling Nomadland. Add in a ridiculously exciting cast including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek,  Gemma Chan, Kit Harington and Richard Madden (yup, Jon Snow and Robb Stark). Mix in the most broadly diverse blockbuster cast and themes ever, including deaf actress Lauren Midloff, Marvel’s actual first sex scene and a proper gay relationship and gay kiss. Layer it all over an epic story spanning thousands of years that taps into many of our world’s oldest myths. Shake it all together and what do you get? A big fat snooze, that’s what. Much has been said about people complaining they wanted Marvel to try something different, and then complaining when they do. Let’s be clear, that is not the problem here.

What’s worse is that there are so many flickers of fabulous texture and life struggling valiantly to get out, that it makes the general inertia and frustrayting flatness even more painful.

I just couldn’t escape the sneaking sensation that Zhao is faintly embarrassed by all this superhero stuff.  The perfunctory action scenes fast become repetitive and the classic superhero moments like posturing line-ups or descending like gods from the sky are often handled with long shots rather than spine-tingling close-ups and a knowing wink.

Don’t mess with the superhero schtick, unless you have something even better to show us. Which this film really doesn’t.

Marvel’s latest origin story introduces a group of ageless beings who have been on Earth for thousands of years, ostensibly to protect humanity from the ravening Deviants.

These monsters are a decidedly dull ‘big bad’, who generally seem indistinguishable and have little discernable motivation beyond stomping and snacking on passing humans. A clumsy third act introduction of sentience and (well-deserved) bid for sympathy is creakily too little, too late and then too easily dismissed.

The Eternals themselves each have extraordinary powers. Jolie’s Thena is a mighty warrior, Midloff’s Makkari has super-speed, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo shoots energy bombs from his fingertips (when he’s not hilariously moonlighting as a Bollywood star) and Madden’s Ikaris is basically Superman with superstrength, flight and laser-beam eyes. And so on.

So why haven’t we heard of them before, like, for example, when Thanos was wiping out half the universe?

Chan’s Sersi tells human boytoy Dane (Harington) it’s because their bosses, the Celestials, told them only to intervene when Deviants were involved.

It all sounds a bit fishy and is revealed to be so when all the twists and rug-pulling inevitably comes.

There are some great revelations, devastating (in theory but just not on screen) betrayals and losses, and a potentially globally catastrophic climax. Yet none of it manages to thrill or dazzle. Or remotely move, despite the excellent cast’s best efforts.

It’s inescapable that all of this is down to the uneven and lacklustre direction.

Zhao’s characters visibly come alive in civvies, gathered around meal tables, bickering and bantering with glimpses of fascinatingly textured dynamics built up over millennia. But put them back in spandex and it all goes stiffer than Angelina’s forehead.

They all have supposedly complex psychological layers but it is all handled so heavy-handledly that it jars and judders, when more ‘traditional’ Marvel movies have made us think and feel far more deeply with breezy ease.

None of this is helped by a fatally underwhelming score by the usually excellent Rami Djawadi which apparently wilfully fails to stir in the big tentpole moments and is rather toe-curlingly twee in the emotional punches.

There are also far too many scenes with no music at all, which is all very well for indie auteur kitchen sink dramas but exposes how inept and prosaic too much of the dialogue is. Hayek, in particular, as maternal Eternals leader Ajak is lumbered with some corkers, halfway between clunky exposition and Hallmark card kitch.

Even so, there remains so much to celebrate, especially regarding what (hopefully) will come next. Harington brings a charming playfulness to hapless human Dane Whitman, who comicbook fans know has a staggering future ahead. Barry Keoghan brings a wonderful unsettling intensity to Druig. The importance of Brian Tyree Henry’s gay Eternal Phastos and Haaz Sleiman as his human husband is immense.

However, the two most energising and exciting moments come in the end credits scenes which I can’t spoil here but both promise a massive injection of energy and, dare I say it, fun, for the sequel. A certain former boyband superstar looks set to cement himself as a bonafide Hollywood star.

Despite all the flaws, there is so much intriguing raw material here that I definitely want to see more, just with a different approach and, I’m sorry to say, a different director.

Best Halloween movies and TV shows on Disney Plus

Best Halloween movies and TV shows to watch on Disney Plus (Image: DISNEY • 20TH TELEVISION • 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS • SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES)

Disney+ might be best known for its packed library of family-friendly Pixar films, Disney princesses, and Mickey Mouse cartoons… but don’t be fooled. This phenomenally-popular streaming service, which launched back in March 2020 in the UK to rival Netflix and Prime Video, has a dark underbelly packed with terrifying horror.

And now that Halloween 2021 is here, it’s time to crack open that underbelly and investigate the spookiest offerings from the House Of Mouse. If you love horror films, you’ll want to launch the Star sub-brand within Disney+ that’s home to the more adult-orientated content on the service. If you’re not the bill payer for the account, you might need to ask them to dive into the parental settings to grant you access.

Once that’s done, Express.co.uk has a few suggestions for the best horror films and TV series included as part of your Disney+ subscription…

HALLOWEEN MOVIES ON DISNEY PLUS: JENNIFER’S BODY

After Diablo Cody won over the hearts and minds of indie film lovers everywhere with breakout hit Juno, she moved on to something very different. Her follow-up to the charming indie flick starring Elliot Page and Michael Cera was something altogether different – the comedy-horror Jennifer’s Body, starring Megan Fox as the titular body-owner and Mamma Mia and Mean Girls star Amanda Seyfried.

Directed by Karyn Kusama (The Invitation), Jennifer’s Body has developed into a cult classic over the years, with the film’s strong feminist message being seen in a new light following the Me Too movement.

HALLOWEEN MOVIES ON DISNEY PLUS: READY OR NOT

If you’re excited about the return of the Scream franchise next year, then you may want to see what the filmmakers who are stepping into Wes Craven’s shoes are capable of. Ready or Not, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is a wickedly funny and entertaining survival horror film starring modern-day scream queen Samara Weaving (The Babysitter, Mayhem).

It follows Weaving’s character Grace on her wedding night, who is forced to take part in a do-or-die game by her new husband’s family. Like beloved modern horrors such as The Guest and Your Next, Ready or Not is a fast-paced thrill-ride that is an absolute blast to watch.

HALLOWEEN MOVIES ON DISNEY PLUS: HOCUS POCUS

Not exactly a scary horror, but Hocus Pocus is an absolute classic that will surely bring a smile to your face this spooky season. The beloved 1993 film stars Bette Midler (Beaches) as a 17th-century witch who is brought back to life in modern-day Salem. Sex and the City‘s Sarah Jessica Parker also stars in the delightful movie.

HALLOWEEN MOVIES ON DISNEY PLUS: 28 DAYS LATER

28 Days Later is Danny Boyle’s seminal horror film set in the aftermath of an outbreak of an incurable virus in London.

The film introduced the idea of fast-moving zombies, ditching the sluggish, lumbering corpses that we’d all become accustomed to thanks to classic horror films like George A Romero’s genre-defining Night of the Living DeadDanny Boyle’s parcour-ing corpses aren’t exactly zombies per se, and the film offers brief glimpses at what might really be behind the outbreak.

The sequel to 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later – not directed by Boyle, is also available on Disney+ as is another great film from the Trainspotting director, the brilliant Sunshine.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

HALLOWEEN TV SHOWS ON DISNEY PLUS: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

Every single episode of the smash-hit 90s TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer is available on Disney+. An absolutely iconic show which launched Sarah Michelle Gellar into stardom, there are so many brilliant Buffy episodes you can choose to watch for the first time or rewatch.

If you’re looking for something to scare you silly then your best pick is season 4 episode Hush.

In this episode, Buffy and the Scooby Gang are left unable to speak after a group known as The Gentlemen steal the hearts and voices of people in Sunnydale. It’s terrifying stuff, and just one look at The Gentlemen is enough to give you nightmares.

The X Files

The X Files – another iconic 90s show – is also available on Disney Plus (Image: 20TH TELEVISION)

HALLOWEEN TV SHOWS ON DISNEY PLUS: THE X-FILES

Another 90s classic, The X-Files made Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny household names, spawned an extremely catchy Catatonia song and brought the anthology TV show format back into the spotlight. While there are over-arching plot threads, one of the best things about The X Files is you can dip into plenty of episodes without seeing any others.

That’s because the majority of The X Files episodes are self-contained stories.

If you’re wondering where to start, a season one episode entitled Squeeze is a classic monster of the week tale. While if you’re after something truly disturbing, then the season four episode Home is the one you’re after.

The episode, which has an 18 rating for a reason, was banned from being shown on TV after first airing due to it being so controversial.

Thankfully, if you want to see why it caused such a fuss it’s available on Disney+ …but be warned, you need a strong stomach to watch it. It ain’t for the faint of heart.

Roger Moore on ‘sex maniac’ Bond star Herve Villechaize: ‘He used to touch me’ | Films | Entertainment https://www.announcement.news/roger-moore-on-sex-maniac-bond-star-herve-villechaize-he-used-to-touch-me-films-entertainment/ https://www.announcement.news/roger-moore-on-sex-maniac-bond-star-herve-villechaize-he-used-to-touch-me-films-entertainment/#respond Sun, 31 Oct 2021 16:44:16 +0000 https://www.announcement.news/roger-moore-on-sex-maniac-bond-star-herve-villechaize-he-used-to-touch-me-films-entertainment/ [ad_1]

Moore said: “He (Villechaize) told me 35. I told him that did not count as he paid for them, but he said, ‘Sometimes when I pay they refuse.'”

Sadly Villechaize did not enjoy a long and prosperous life full of anecdotes like Roger Moore. After almost two decades in the limelight his life had a tragic ending.

After finding global fame in the Bond franchise, he embraced a second round of success when he starred alongside Ricardo Montalban as Mr Roarke’s assistant, Tattoo, in the global smash-hit television series Fantasy Island from 1978.

Unfortunately, he was fired in 1984 after repeatedly clashing with the show’s producers over his pay demands and unwelcome propositioning of female cast members and crew.

Next James Bond reboot ‘very difficult’ after No Time To Die: ‘Fans divided’ says 007 star | Films | Entertainment https://www.announcement.news/next-james-bond-reboot-very-difficult-after-no-time-to-die-fans-divided-says-007-star-films-entertainment/ https://www.announcement.news/next-james-bond-reboot-very-difficult-after-no-time-to-die-fans-divided-says-007-star-films-entertainment/#respond Sun, 31 Oct 2021 12:43:23 +0000 https://www.announcement.news/next-james-bond-reboot-very-difficult-after-no-time-to-die-fans-divided-says-007-star-films-entertainment/ [ad_1]

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR NO TIME TO DIE. It’s been a month since Daniel Craig’s fifth and final film was released and as ever fans are speculating over who the next 007 will be. Not just arguing over the bookies’ favourites like Tom Hardy and Richard Madden, but also how Bond will be rebooted. Will the franchise have a modern setting and just how radical a change will it be?

Express.co.uk recently spoke with Spectre and No Time To Die star Brigitte Millar, who plays Dr Vogel in both movies.

Asked about the next Bond she replied: “I have no idea! How would you even continue now [after killing him off]? What would be the next step even?

“They can either go back to the sixties and start afresh or they just keep contemporary and carry on where they left off with No Time To Die.”

Whatever the case, Brigitte is convinced that Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have a tough task on their hands.

The Bond actress said: “It’s very difficult also because of the audience. I think the audience is very divided.”

Not only have fans been split on the decision to kill 007 off, but others feel that in more recent years the character has been stepping further and further away from Ian Fleming’s original idea into something more politically correct. Naturally, some fans are pleased with this but others are not.

But it’s not just No Time To Die, with Brigitte pointing out how some fans really didn’t like the previous film.

She said: “Even Spectre was already divisive because of the different opinion about it.”

Sharing her thoughts on Bond’s death in No Time To Die, the Dr Vogel star said: “I found it quite surprising. If you think of real agents, they get a new life.

“They get a new passport, they get a new face, they get a new identity and are relocated.

“And I thought it would be something along those lines. It would look as though he’d died, but in reality, he was given a new face, passport and life in South America or wherever.”

No Time To Die is out now.

Next James Bond: Netflix star smashes past Tom Hardy and Rege-Jean Page | Films | Entertainment https://www.announcement.news/next-james-bond-netflix-star-smashes-past-tom-hardy-and-rege-jean-page-films-entertainment/ https://www.announcement.news/next-james-bond-netflix-star-smashes-past-tom-hardy-and-rege-jean-page-films-entertainment/#respond Sun, 31 Oct 2021 00:39:30 +0000 https://www.announcement.news/next-james-bond-netflix-star-smashes-past-tom-hardy-and-rege-jean-page-films-entertainment/ [ad_1]

It is well worth remembering that Craig was not a household name, nor was he on many people’s radars when he emerged out of the blue to snatch the biggest role in cinema. The race to replace him as 007 is wide open, although producer Barbara Broccoli has made it clear it will not be a woman. Madden’s profile is currently soaring thanks to his leading role in Marvel’s Eternals – something similar previously happened for him when The Bodyguard was airing. Likewise, Hardy is back at the forefront now that Venom 2 has hit cinemas. But the latest new favourite to be the next Bond  currently has no major projects out, which makes his dominance even more impressive.

The current hottest bloke on the Bond block is Umbrella Academy’s Tom Hopper.

The British actor isn’t quite a household name, but he has been regularly on our screens for over a decade. From playing Sir Percival in Merlin to the honourable (so honourable he faced the dragon’s flames rather than kneel to Daenerys) Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones, he is well-used to playing strapping chaps who always do their duty.

His current role is a little more morally ambiguous in the smash-hit Netflix show The Umbrella Academy where he plays Number One, Luther Hargreaves.

READ MORE: Bond Daniel Craig ‘Filming with The Queen was terrifying, it’s much crazier than you see on The Crown’

However, it is worth noting that a new study looking at the public’s opinions of who will take over as James Bond, paints a very different picture.

A major new report looked at all the data from social media posts and found a clear winner and it is Netflix’s breakout Bridgerton hunk.

By analysing every tweet written about the 16 actors linked most closely to the job on positive/negative sentiment per tweet, total number of tweets, viral tweets and engagements, OLBG’s Bond Breakdown reveals that Rege-Jean Page is the runaway favourite among fans.

Page is way out in front, followed by Elba and then Poldark’s Aiden Turner and Outlander’s Sam Heughan.

What is interesting is that bookies’ favourites like Hardy and Madden are trailing far behind at number seven and fourteen, respectively. Hopper, as such a newcomer is nowhere to be seen.

However, Ladbrokes confirmed that punters seem to know their own minds and have placed a staggering 34% of all bets this year for the next James Bond on Bridgerton’s Page.  Second is Norton on 14% and Hardy on 13%.

In the round-up of the year’s betting, Idris Elba has received 8% of all money spent with Henry Cavill next on 7%.

While punters, pundits and industry analysts endlessly watch the ongoing race for 007, it should also be remembered that Bond supremo Barbara Broccoli is keeping the top-secret James Bond shortlist close to her chest and has also declared recently that she will not even be thinking about Craig’s replacement until next year.

Whether or not anyone is convinced by that, 2022 is suddenly only two months away anyway…

‘Johnny Depp is overrated’: Succession’s Brian Cox blasts Pirates star | Films | Entertainment https://www.announcement.news/johnny-depp-is-overrated-successions-brian-cox-blasts-pirates-star-films-entertainment/ https://www.announcement.news/johnny-depp-is-overrated-successions-brian-cox-blasts-pirates-star-films-entertainment/#respond Fri, 29 Oct 2021 12:26:38 +0000 https://www.announcement.news/johnny-depp-is-overrated-successions-brian-cox-blasts-pirates-star-films-entertainment/ [ad_1]

Cox has opened fire on a number of famous faces in his new memoir, Putting the Rabbit in the Hat. On screen in Succession as ruthless patriarch Logan Roy, he is notoriously brutal in his treatment of family members and business foes alike. Now the actor seems to be channelling some of his character’s bluntness in a remarkable series of comments about Hollywood legends from Depp to Michael Caine.

Cox revealed he had originally been up for the role of Governor Weatherby Swann in three of the Pirates of the Caribbean films – The Curse of The Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End.

The colourful part eventually went to Jonathan Pryce, but Cox doesn’t sound like he would have been impressed to star opposite the franchise’s leading man, anyway.

Speaking of Depp, he said: “Personable though I’m sure he is, is so overblown, so overrated.”

The75-year-old then went on to tear apart the actor’s entire career.

Cox is equally dismissive of a number of other well-known and highly regarded actors.

He starred in Spike Lee’s 12th Hour with Edward Norton who he calls “a pain in the ar*e because he fancies himself as a writer-director.”

He gives a masterclass in how to deliver a classic back-handed compliment in his dismissal of double Oscar-winner Michael Caine.

Cox says: “I wouldn’t describe Michael as my favourite, but he’s Michael Caine. An institution. And being an institution will always beat having range.”

The list goes on as Cox refers to David Bowie as: “A skinny kid, and not a particularly good actor. He made a better pop star, that much is for certain.”

He is equally forthright in his comments on directors, with a withering assessment of Quentin Tarantino.

Cox says: “I find his work meretricious. It’s all surface. Plot mechanics in place of depth. Style where there should be substance. I walked out of Pulp Fiction… That said, if the phone rang, I’d do it.”

However, Cox is aware the phone may not ring after some of his comment.

He told The Big Issue: “I’m expecting probably never to hear from some people again. But that’s the way it goes.”

While Cox also speaks poorly of Steven Segal, Michael Gambon, Gary Oldman and Daniel Day-Lewis, he has kind words for others like Morgan Freeman, Keanu Reeves and Alan Rickman.

Avengers Endgame was released over two years ago, but the Cinematic Universe continues to grow bigger and bigger. Now Disney have announced Avengers Quantum Encounter, which will star Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp. The Hollywood stars have been confirmed for a first of its kind dining adventure onboard the Disney Cruise Line ship Disney Wish.

Joining the four Avengers stars in the new filmed show will be Kerry Condon reprising her role as the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y. and Ross Marquand, who played Red Skull in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, will voice Ultron.

As for the plot of Avengers Quantum Encounter, Disney teased: “The show will follow Ant-Man and The Wasp as they host a presentation of the most powerful Super Hero technologies in the world, including a hands-on demonstration of the latest and greatest Pym Tech.

“But when Ultron turns up with an army of robot sentries eager to take control of this world-changing technology, Ant-Man and The Wasp will need all the help they can get to save the day – calling on Captain America, Captain Marvel and even the brave diners of the Disney Wish for back-up.

“Oh, and there’s one more Super Hero who will make a surprise appearance during the show. I can’t wait to share more about that at a later date.”

Ant-Man 3 co-stars Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Marvel’s time-travelling villain, who was introduced as the variant He Who Remains in Loki.

Then there’s Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson who became Captain America in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

He’s getting his very own Captain America 4, although when such a film will be released is TBC.

Avengers Quantum Encounter sets sail on the Disney Wish from Summer 2022.

Eternals is the worst reviewed MCU movie since Thor The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk | Films | Entertainment https://www.announcement.news/eternals-is-the-worst-reviewed-mcu-movie-since-thor-the-dark-world-and-the-incredible-hulk-films-entertainment/ https://www.announcement.news/eternals-is-the-worst-reviewed-mcu-movie-since-thor-the-dark-world-and-the-incredible-hulk-films-entertainment/#respond Wed, 27 Oct 2021 20:02:47 +0000 https://www.announcement.news/eternals-is-the-worst-reviewed-mcu-movie-since-thor-the-dark-world-and-the-incredible-hulk-films-entertainment/ [ad_1]

As it stands, Eternals has only 69 per cent positive reviews, coming behind the not-so-fondly remembered Avengers: Age of Ultron and Iron Man 2.

In fact, the 26th MCU movie is currently third from bottom in the franchise, only just ahead of The Incredible Hulk (67 per cent) and Thor: The Dark World (66 per cent).

Of course, it is worth pointing out that there has never been a rotten Rotten Tomatoes score for an MCU movie, which would be 59 per cent and below.

So what’s up with Eternals given it had so much going for it? Check out some of the reviews below, many of which are 2 and 3 stars.
