Man Utd news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms double injury blow ahead of Southampton clash | Football | Sport

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been dealt a double injury blow ahead of the trip to Southampton. The Manchester United boss has revealed Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are major doubts for the clash on the South Coast after the pair missed training on Friday.

The duo have found it toughing getting into Solskjaer’s team at the moment, with competition for places particularly high in midfield.

However, the Norwegian will be frustrated that both Pogba and McTominay may not recover in time for Sunday’s game.

“Scott [McTominay] and Paul [Pogba] didn’t train this morning, they weren’t on the grass. They look very unlikely for the weekend,” Solskjaer said in his press conference.

He also confirmed that Pogba’s ankle injury is separate to the one that saw him miss the majority of last season.

“Luke [Shaw] has started rehab on the grass, not with the squad.”

Shaw is still a few weeks away from retuning, following a hamstring injury sustained in the 3-1 win at Everton.

United are hoping they’ve turned the corner following that result before the international break.

The club also bounced back in a similar style after the 6-1 loss to Tottenham but were soon brought back down to earth after sobering defeats against Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Solskjaer made it clear that he’s not expecting any incomings in the January transfer window.

The former Red Devils striker may have shot himself in the foot, by declaring he is more than happy with his squad.

He said: “It’s hard to predict the financial situation of other teams. I don’t predict a lot of ins and outs [in January], the football world has changed.

“It depends on injury situations — I am very happy with my squad, we are getting stronger.”
