Michael Jackson fans were devastated by the loss of the King of Pop back in 2009. In an unexpected turn of events the star became unresponsive after suffering a cardiac arrest in his rented mansion in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

While his death was entirely surprising, his personal physician, Conrad Murray, was eventually charged with involuntary manslaughter, after it came out that he had provided Jackson with some medication prior to the heart attack.

One year before Jackson’s death, however, it was revealed that the star was more unwell than fans may have initially thought.

His official biographer, Ian Halperin, claimed Jackson suffered from a number of ailments, lessening his quality of life.

Halperin also claimed Jackson had an inherited disease that restricted protein in the lungs, and left him gasping for breath.

He said: “Michael Jackson is a good example to youth.

“Helping us keep kids off the streets by supporting Scouting.”

Jackson was actually awarded the first ever trophy named after him by Disney CEO Michael Eisner.

A few years later, in 1993, Jackson was touring his brand new album, Dangerous, across the world.

But when he arrived in Tel Aviv he took some time off to visit sick children.

The official Michael Jackson Twitter account recalled this exceptional display of philanthropy.

It read: “In September of 1993, Michael Jackson visited Tel Aviv during the Israeli leg of his Dangerous World Tour. During a day of rest between two scheduled concerts, Michael spent his time cheering up cancer and transplant patients at nearby children’s hospitals.”
